SD, or Secure Digital, cards are used to store and transfer information between digital cameras, mobile phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and even small computers. The SD card is inserted into the side of the digital device and it stores pictures, ring tones, documents and contacts. There are a few different formats and sizes, including microSD, miniSD, and SDHC. Occasionally the cards crash or the user mistakenly deletes data. This article will show you how to restore deleted files on an SD card.
- 1Check the recycle bin on your SD card. SD card itself does not have recycle bin , so when you delete files from SD card, the files does not go to recycle bin on computer. However, if the SD card is on device like a tablet, a tablet has an Operating system which is similar to a computer OS, it will a recycle bin where things can be held when you don't want them.
- If it is difficult to manipulate the bin on your small digital screen, you can connect your device to a computer, using a cable with a USB drive that you received with your digital device. Open the device and look on the SD card to see if the files remain or are currently being stored in the recycle bin.
- You can find your SD card under "My Computer" on a PC OS. You can find your SD card under the "Finder" window in Mac OS.
- 2Once you realize that files are deleted from SD card, you need to stop using the SD card immediately. This is because that any new files saved to SD card could use the space of deleted files, which could overwrite the information and make deleted files unrecoverable.
- 3Download data recovery software from the Internet, if the data was not in the recycle bin. Read reviews to determine that it is a reputable software company. You may have to pay for this software.
- 4Install the data recovery software onto the computer that you will use to help restore the files.
- 5Insert the SD card into your computer, or connect the device in which the SD card is located to your computer, if you have not done so already.
- 6Run the data recovery software. Select the SD card as the location to restore files. The software will begin to scan the card for deleted files.
- 7View the recovered files in a list or tree. Peruse them before choosing to restore the files, to ensure you have found the correct files.
- A good recovery software program will allow you to search by date created, date modified, name and more. This is especially important if you want to recover deleted photos.
- 8Select the files you want to restore. You can select multiple files by holding down the "Command" key on Mac OS or the "Control" key on a PC.
- 9Click "Next" or "Continue" or "Enter" to recover files.
